ASCS Patriots Return to Black Rock for $5,000-to-win Insinger NY Nationals $3,000-to-win modified special also part of the night
DUNDEE, NY - The biggest night of the year at the Black Rock Speedway is straight ahead with a huge sprint, modified and 4-cylinder show, not to mention all the NASCAR stars that will be on hand.
Insinger Race Fuels, SP Wilson and Lakes Gas and Camping World of Bath have teamed together for what is expected to be a terrific night to benefit Motor Racing Outreach.
With help from Matt and Bob Dillner, a number of NASCAR drivers, crew members and owners will return once again to compete in modifieds, micro sprints, enduros and maybe even sprint cars!
The New York Modified Midgets, a $500-to-win Black Rock/ Genesee 4-Cylinder Challenge, are also on the card. Racing will get underway at 6:45 p.m., with gates swinging open at 4:00 p.m.
Sprint Release:
The track that has played host to more ASCS Patriot events than any other will be the site of the richest stand-alone Patriot event in series history this Friday.
BRS will host the $5,000-to-win Insinger Race Fuels New York Nationals, the 10th running of the Finger Lake’s biggest sprint car event. A new sponsor and a new attitude have been brought to the event, but the same familiar faces are expected to contend for the win at the end of the night.
The last four years, Black Rock has run a Patriot race on the second Saturday in August. This time around, the sprints will be in competition only on the standard Friday Night card, just up the road from Watkins Glen International, which will have the NASCAR Stars in town.
BRS was the home to the Patriots in 2004, when the sprints were part of the weekly Saturday Night card. George Suprick was the champion that year, and is one of only two drivers to score a $5,000-to-win event at Black Rock.
Suprick, of Clarks Summit, PA, is fresh off his first win of the season at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway. BRS is by far the best track for Suprick, and he is definitely amongst the favorites for the big payday.
Defending Patriot Champion Chuck Hebing has scored four wins at Black Rock in his career, including this event two years ago. “Cobra” was also the winner of the preliminary night event last May when the American Sprint Cars on Tour invaded New York for the first time.
Hebing came within inches of winning last August, with Jared Zimbardi holding him off in a historic battle. Zimbardi is still winless this season with the Patriots but is primed for what would be the biggest win of his career.
Current Patriot point leader Bryan Howland considers Black Rock one of his toughest challenges, but a string of solid finishes, including a near win their earlier this year, is helping to build the 21-year-olds confidence towards winning his second career $5,000 paycheck.
Trevor Lewis, of Upper Black Eddy, PA, has two NY National wins and is expected to challenge a number of the Patriot Regulars. Other past Black Rock winners, including Blake and Bobby Breen, Justin Barger, and hometown heroes Lance Yonge and Tim Kelly should factor into the mix for the big win.
In addition to those favorites, a number of surprises may try their hand on this convenient Friday Night to pick up the big win.
Insinger Race Fuels, title sponsor of the event, is also the sponsor of the 2008 Patriot Rookie of the Year. Bubba Broderick currently leads that race with Joe August Jr., Robbie Shuttleworth and T.J. Newton still in the hunt.

Modified Release:
The second of three $3,000-to-win 358-modified races will also be run on Friday Night. Unlike the race back in April, this event will be count for points towards the 2008 season championship.
With one of the greatest point races in BRS history, Brian Swarthout holds a slim four-point lead over Eric Fisher. Just 11 back of Swarthout is Ron White, with rookie sensation Mike Mahaney only one back of that. In this super-tight points battle, only 39 points separate the top-12 in the standings.
Only 12 points separate the top-four, and Dale Welty and Ray Bliss are among the names are still in the mix. The amazing thing is that none of those six names have a win yet this season. If they win this Friday though, not only will they benefit themselves greatly towards the championship, they will capture a cool $3,000 as well.
Steve Paine has won the last four weeks but may have that streak snapped on Friday with his commitment to Brewerton potentially forcing his hand.
